Learn to Speedfly

Come train with top-level pilots, in the Speedfly mecca of the U.S. - Salt Lake City, Utah!
We’ve authored the first comprehensive rating system (S1-S4) and training syllabus, recently adopted by the United States Hang-Gliding and Paragliding Association!  We’re excited to share our knowledge-base with both beginners to the sport, as well as “cross-over” canopy pilots from both paragliding and skydiving.

We offer the only Speedfly-specific Big Mountain Training Progression in the country, taught by instructors with extensive international experience, both on foot and on skis.

Unlike other schools, we do NOT believe you need to learn to Paraglide before you begin learning to Speedfly.  However, your training will begin on larger canopies, with a gradual progression towards smaller, faster wings as your skills progress.
We also offer ongoing intermediate and advanced coaching for existing Speedflyers! Let us help you LEVEL UP, with a sustainable progression designed to empower even experienced pilots with the techniques and awareness to continue safely, and rapidly improving.

Where?

Our training site, located at the famous Point of the Mountain just 25min outside Salt Lake City, offers some of the most consistent wind-conditions in the country, ensuring that you can maximize your time.

As your skills progress, the surrounding mountain ranges offer more Speedflying and Speedriding sites than anywhere else in North America, with uniquely consistent wind-conditions, and launches facing in all 4 cardinal directions.

How long does it take?

Learning to fly is serious business! You are setting out into the mountains with a personal, ultralight aircraft in your backpack, and only your two legs for landing gear.

We recommend allotting 10 full days for your training in order to feel confident in leaving with the skills and knowledge-base you need to safely Speedfly without an instructor. When budgeting your time, plan on 1-2 days of inclement weather and/or rest-days amidst your training.

Most days are spent with about 1/3 of your time in the "classroom" - learning about the fundamentals of flight, aerodynamics, and decision-making.

The other 2/3's of your time are generally spent at either the Point of the Mountain flight park, or on local grassy hillsides, mastering control of your canopy, and developing a relationship with both your harness and your wing as you gradually begin to take flight!

Your training will culminate in an “S2” rating evaluation and test, granting you our formal stamp of approval as a qualified solo Speedflying pilot!

“If you think its expensive to hire a professional, just wait until you hire an amateur…”

Our time is valuable, because when we aren't conducting training, we are actively pursuing our passion for big mountain Speedflying. We live, eat and breath this sport, and we’ve travelled the world accumulating a comprehensive knowledge base we’re excited to share with you.

We encourage you to shop around with other schools, but recommend that you ask potential instructors to provide video content of themselves Speedflying. There are many amazing Paragliding schools throughout the country. But we are the only Speedfly-specific school, run by top-level Speedwing pilots with extensive international training, and a network of fellow flyers and flying sites around the world. Equally important — we offer ongoing coaching as your skills progress to intermediate and advanced levels. Do you want to learn Barrel Rolls? Do you want to pioneer new flights off of your local mountain? We are the people to talk to.... Feel free to visit our Video Gallery if you are in doubt.
